Our Organic Practices

Is Osorio Family Farms really 100% organic?

Yes — absolutely. We use zero synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Ever. Our farm follows the strictest certified organic and regenerative organic practices, and we're happy to walk anyone through our exact methods. See our full organic practices →

What's the difference between "organic" and "regenerative organic"?

Organic means no synthetic chemicals — that's the foundation. Regenerative organic goes further: it actively rebuilds soil health through cover cropping, composting, no-till methods, and biodiversity. We do both. Our goal is to leave the land healthier than we found it.

Are your seeds GMO?

Never. We plant 100% non-GMO, certified organic seeds — and we save heirloom seeds year after year to preserve flavor, biodiversity, and the genetic heritage of our crops.

Do you use any sprays at all?

The only inputs allowed on our farm are OMRI-listed organic substances — things like neem oil, beneficial insects, and compost teas. No synthetic anything. Our preferred approach is always preventive: healthy soil grows healthy plants that resist pests naturally.

Can I have organic produce delivered to my home?

Yes! We partner with Farm Cart for home delivery throughout Southern California. They handle the logistics; we handle the organic farming. Learn more about LA delivery →

What if I miss the market?

Reach out to us directly. For Carpinteria locals, we can often arrange a direct pickup. For everyone else, the Farm Cart partnership runs throughout the week.

Do you offer educational tours for schools or groups?

Yes — we love educating the next generation about organic farming. Reach out about group tours, school visits, and community education events.

Storing & Using Organic Produce

How long does your organic produce last?

Because our produce is harvested the day before market — not weeks before like supermarket produce — it lasts significantly longer. Greens easily 7-10 days when stored properly. Tomatoes 4-7 days at room temperature. The freshness is real, and you'll notice.

How should I store my organic greens?

Don't pre-wash. Wrap loosely in a paper towel inside a perforated bag or open container. Refrigerate. Wash only what you'll use that meal. Greens will last 7-10 days this way.

Should I refrigerate heirloom tomatoes?

Never. Refrigeration kills tomato flavor and texture. Keep them on the counter, stem-side down, out of direct sunlight. Use within 4-7 days of purchase.

Do you have recipes for what you grow?

Yes! Visit our recipes page for family-tested ways to use our 100% organic heirloom tomatoes, cone cabbages, baby greens, and seasonal vegetables.
